Spokesman Colonel Musafar Al-Qarini was quoted as saying that the anti-crime and anti-narcotics police, along with other agencies, foiled a major drug smuggling attempt from abroad, seizing 161kg of hashish and 26.3 tonnes of qat. The drugs were seized during ground patrols in Jazan, Najran and Asir areas. According to Col. Musafar Al-Qarini, 26 suspects involved in various drug trafficking gangs were arrested during the operation, including 17 locals and 9 foreigners, 6 foreigners from Ethiopia and 3 from Yemen. Action was taken against him as per law.
